Forest Edge Cabin Addition

Location:

Horicon, NY, USA

Year:

2024

Forest Edge Cabin Addition is a 500-square-foot primary suite addition to an existing log cabin in New York State. Set within a dense wooded landscape, the project expands the home with a new primary bedroom, walk-in closet, and ensuite bathroom while preserving the quiet, retreat-like character of the original cabin.

The addition is designed as a restrained companion volume rather than a competing gesture. A standing seam metal roof, vertical board siding, dark-trimmed windows, and a simple parged base allow the new work to feel contemporary while remaining grounded in the rustic material language of the existing log structure. The roofline, window proportions, and material transitions are carefully composed to maintain the scale and silhouette of the cabin from the surrounding landscape.

The design improves comfort, privacy, and daily function while respecting what already makes the home special: its warmth, modesty, and strong connection to the forest. Nestled at the edge of the existing structure, the addition extends the life of the cabin without erasing its original character.

Construction is scheduled to begin this summer, with progress and final photography to follow.
